16BIT: Pulls LA forward this Friday (4/10/09)
Inspiration makes things happen -everywhere you look and be. Take some beat makers inspired by throbbing bass to make you sweat hard and some heads who love throwing conscious music events with style and you have the next installment of 16BIT happening this Friday at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice, CA. Musical guests are: Marty Party, Mimosa, and Br!on (get his free mix here)
16 BIT has been a dynamic performance showcase for the past 6 months and was founded by partners Braden Anderson (Dj/Promoter), Chris Caparro (DJ/Promoter), who along with partner Debi Mae West run Family Affair, and Carlos De La Torre (Event Producer/Promoter).
In their own words Braden and Carlos share the creation intention of 16BIT:
Braden:>>> ”16BIT more or less came about due to my mission to cross genres in and out of our community. I can’t seem to focus on just one type of music so I’ve become very versatile in the DJ world by doing allot of live remixing; everything from Breaks to Mid Tempo to Electro to Dubstep. I’ve always steered very clear of mainstream and it tends to show in our events.
The only problem was not having enough places to play so many types of music in one sitting. 16BIT allows us to be very eclectic in our programming of music and performances. We’ve had all kinds of interesting performances in the past six months: Fire, Belly dance, Visuals, Live Music, Dj’s from all over the country etc… We’ve hosted: The Toledo Show, Helios Jive, Beats Antique, Marty & Mimosa, just to name a few.”
+ + + + + +
Carlos:>>> “The one consistent thing that kept coming up in our conversations was that we all were tired of the “same old same” in LA. So we put our heads together and pledged to expose people for, at least 1 night, to something out of the ordinary. Each month would be a unique experience.
Our goal is to be accessible, non-exclusive (no bottle service, no vip). We want to bring people of different cultures, ethnicities and socioeconomic groups together to experience art, banging music and performance for one night a month.”
For now these shows have been going down at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice, CA and happening once a month, usually on the third Friday, which can change from time to time. But as Braden notes, the tribe is growing steadily past the 400 person capacity of the joint and it maybe soon to get a bigger shack for these big bandwidth hoe downs.
