Everything You do is news!: Pt.2
This is a continuation of the article: Everything You Do is News! Click here to read it.
Are you asking yourself: “Who would benefit from what I’ve done?”. The answer is: countless people around the world, who share your tastes, could and will benefit from where you are on your life/musicians journey. Did you ever get inspired by someone who was ahead of you in the experience department? Sure you did. And if they taught you, or even just inspired you, you grew and became more from just that single fleeting/lasting interaction.
But philanthropic granola aside –you can also accomplish two very needed things in this world through the sharing of your news –reputation as an expert and added income (not to mention higher page hits on Google!).
As you regularly post and transmit your filter of expertise to the world, you will also attract an audience. Not just any audience that you typically bought with advertising dollars, but an audience of genuinely interested people who continually return, or are updated through syndication feeds (RSS), to your chapel of knowledge.
People are looking for what you know. Really! In an attention starved world your task is to present your knowledge in the communication mediums of the day, as well as hone it down to its bare essentials for the sake of simplicity and rapid digestion. People want to learn and then quickly get on with the solution of their desired action/outcome. You don’t want to suck people into class –you want to send them on their way. What they give you in return is a click, a link, a recommendation, a return of their time. All these points can be monetized. Get right to the heart of the matter –trim the information and honor peoples attention.
The new rules for the new economy can be summarized as:
Where ever attention flows, money will follow.
-Kevin Kelly
But the basic meme (I totally said meme!) I really want to get across is this –everything you do, and I mean everything –is news. Your band/musicianship is your brand and brands today are built upon the sharing of memorable and useful experiences/expertise at no, or little financial cost to the one who gives you their time.
Every You Do is News, News, News –at a glance:
- Sharing what You do builds an audience
- That audience talks about You (links, recommendations, blogs)
- You rise in search engine rankings and clicks
- More attention follows
- You get paid in: cash, news articles, more bookings, interviews, book deals, fans highly anticipating Your next song, who knows!
Rock it!
